In the most recent Pokemon Sunday episode, Jun'ichi Masuda showed the silhouette of the first fifth generation Pokemon. The Pokemon's identity is going to be revealed in Pokemon Sunday's February 21st episode. Apparently, the Pokemon is a key character in the upcoming Pokemon movie Phantom Champion Z.

First Generation = AWESOME, has classics.

Second Generation = Pretty good, a good addition

Third Generation = Didnt like this one as much as the first two...

Fourth Generation = Only good additions was Lucario and maybe Munchlax. The rest are weird...



And now a fifth?! So soon? The fourth came out only last year!1

I mean, they all came out like 2-4 years apart...why another one so soon?

Hopefully they'll be actual good ones. And not creepy ones like Giratina and the other weirdo legendaries for the fourth Generation.

EDIT: OH GOD. I saw the shillouette of the secret pokemon, and PLEASE TELL ME THATS NOT THE EVOLVED FORM OF LUCARIO. It looks freaking gheeey.

The picture was revealed today. Looks meh. Too much like a Lucario to me. They need to stop making these "cool" looking Pokemon that the kids just eat up. Nonetheless, I'll still get and.

And WTF about 4th generation coming out a year ago? It came out in 07 (technically, 06 for Japan)!

Yeah, Pokemon was never meant to be dark and edgy. Like Ripper said, they added all those god-awful legendaries in the fourth gen so that the little kids would go crazy for every piece of merchandise that came out. I wish that they would return to the designs of the first two (and some of the third) gens, where the designs were simpler and looked more like real-life animals/people/objects.

The pre-evolution of this new Pokemon isn't bad, but the fully-evolved version DOES look just like a Lucario palette swap.

Alright, first screenshots have just showed up. So far, the game looks pretty nice. All the environments are in 3D but the characters are still sprites.

Anyways, the 3D looks really nice. The city screenshot they showed has this great sense of depth and it gives you an idea how big the city is. It looks like the camera will be dynamic, which will be good to emphasize the environments.

The Pokemon Center screenshot looks great. The took the feeling of the gathering-place like Pokemon Centers of the anime and put it in the game. The center's much more spacious, has some nice 3D effects, many more people, and even has shops inside.

Lastly, the battle screenshot. The games have finally departed from the old Pokemon Battle screen and created a new one. This design feels a lot like the Golden Sun games, which, albeit being 9 year old games, had some really great battle effects. Even though the Pokemon are still sprites, it looks like it will have (another) dynamic camera which I think looks great in an RPG.

Hopefully, there will be some gameplay footage later today when Pokemon Sunday airs. I'm really glad they're announcing this game, but I do still wish it would be for 3DS. Besides, when the (eminent) 3rd game in the series comes (i.e. Yellow, Crystal, etc.) the DS will be long gone. Oh well... my hope is that the game is ported over to 3DS before release.

I looooove the city screenshots. Hopefully the whole game uses that camera view.

The screenshots seem to have a sort of urban feel to them. Apparently the caption under the bridge pic hinted at there being some sort of car/truck/bus used as transportation for the player.

Yeah, I like how the Pokemon Center has more of a "social rest stop" sort of feel. I wonder if we'll still have Poke Marts?

The battle pic's kind of meh for me. I like how you can see the entire back of your Pokemon, but I hope they don't keep the opponent's Pokemon's sprite so small. IMO, they should be putting more emphasis on the opposing Pokemon than your Pokemon, but it's not a huge deal or anything.

But these screenshots look great overall. Hopefully new Pokemon (starters?) will be revealed during Pokemon Sunday.
